Alex Lowes ruled fit to compete at Balaton Park after recovering from left ankle injury at Donington

Thursday, 24 July 2025 08:46 GMT

After missing two out of three races at his home round with injury, Alex Lowes is back in action at Balaton

Looking to make up for lost time, Alex Lowes (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team) is set to take to the track for the WorldSBK paddock’s long-awaited return to Hungary for the first time in 35 years as the grid prepares for the brand-new Balaton Park Circuit. He has been given the all-clear from the medical centre, giving him the green light for Friday’s Free Practice sessions and the weekend ahead.

After topping two of the three Free Practice sessions to open Donington’s Prosecco DOC UK Round. Alex Lowes looked in prime position to make history with bimota at his familiar home track, and after clocking in the third fastest time in the Tissot Superpole session, he then had the grid position to match. His Race 1 began with a quick jump off the line, running in the front positions and even overtaking Razgatlioglu at his “favourite” track to take P1, however on Lap 4’s Turn 4, Lowes crashed out of the race, injuring his ankle in the process. He tried to take part in Sunday morning’s Warm-Up session; however, his swelling had gotten worse overnight at he was ruled unfit before the Superpole Race.
